Buying tips. Why you should ignore the asking price.

The reason I’m posting this is because I come across a lot of people that seem to think that the more money they get off the asking price, the better the deal.

Every asking price, regardless of how it’s put, is just a number. Nothing more. The only relevance of it is to ensure that when people are searching, they’re in the right ball park. No point going to see £1million property with a £500k budget.

If you’re in the market to buy, once you’ve got your short list of properties, don’t make an offer based on the asking price, make an offer based on what you’d be happy to pay and how that compares value wise with your research and other properties you’ve seen.

Someone has said to me “It’s on at £270k but we can get it for £250k.  We prefer another house but they want the asking price and it’s only on at £250k”.

That £20k saving is make believe.  It just doesn’t exist.  Buy the better house.  Forget about asking prices, they just don’t matter.
